Having started his career as a builder in the early 1990’s, Morris Architecture founding Principal Robert “Buz” Morris approached the architectural profession with a unique perspective: the perspective of a builder with a passion for superior design, aesthetic appeal, flow and quality. With exposure to every element of the new build process, Buz quickly learned the value of having a committed architect manage the full scope of a project, and most importantly, he recognized the need for a fluid architect/builder relationship. This experience prompted him to pursue a career in architecture. Educated in North & South Carolina, Buz won a prestigious design competition, awarding him an internship in New York with the esteemed firm, Gwathmey Siegel. Training directly under Charles Gwathmey, Buz had the opportunity to work on some of the most prominent buildings in New York, including the 256,000 sq ft New York Public Library.
With deep South Carolina roots, solid experience and a strong philosophy, Buz moved back to Charleston to open his own firm, bringing with him a fresh perspective and a sophisticated approach to design. Featured in the book Spectacular Homes of the Carolinas, Buz’s designs are referred to as “faithful to the building or place’s origins while seamlessly integrating modern conveniences, lending a distinctive permanence and homogeniality” (Carabet, Shand). His combination of building and architectural expertise has earned him priceless insight that few Charleston architects are able to offer.

Luke Morris joined Morris Architecture in 2013 after completing a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Architecture at Clemson University that same year. Throughout his undergraduate studies, Luke was afforded many opportunities, one of which was to study in downtown Charleston for a semester.
Being born and raised in Charleston is what inspired Luke to pursue architecture as a profession, and having the opportunity to study in this historically rich city gave him a deeper understanding of what it is that so many people find so appealing about its buildings.
Luke is currently enrolled at Georgia Tech to complete his Master of Architecture Degree and is set to graduate in the spring of 2016.
